Kano State was rocked by tragedy on Wednesday as a two-year-old boy and a 28-year-old man lost their lives after falling into separate wells.
The first incident occurred in Kwankwaso town, Madobi Local Government Area, where Sa’idu Ahmad, aged two, reportedly fell into a well.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, the fire service received an emergency call at about 12:15 p.m. and quickly dispatched a rescue team.
“The boy was rescued unconscious and later handed over to Umar Shehu of Madobi Police Division. The cause of the incident is still under investigation,” Abdullahi said.
Later the same day, a 28-year-old man, Suleiman Sani, fell into a well in Karofawa Yan Kifi Village, Ghari Local Government Area. Abdullahi explained that the victim was rescued but later confirmed dead by his parents.
He was handed over to the Village Head of Karofawa, Alhaji Musa Aliyu, and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
The Kano State Fire Service extended condolences to the families of the deceased and urged the public to ensure that wells are properly covered to prevent such tragedies.
This is not the first time such incidents have occurred in the region. A similar tragedy was reported in November 2025, when a 12-year-old girl, Nabilat, died after falling into a domestic well in Ikoyi Community, Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State.
