The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Aina Adesola, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer of Jesse Division, CSP Chidi Nwabuzor, following allegations of extortion involving the sum of two million, five hundred thousand naira.

The CP also directed the X Squad to investigate the matter after a viral video surfaced in which a woman accused police officers of collecting money to secure the release of her brother from custody.

The directive was contained in a press briefing issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Edafe Bright, and made available to journalists in Asaba.

According to the command, the woman in the viral video alleged that an officer identified as Bright, another officer named Usman, and the Jesse DPO extorted N2.5m from her with the promise that her brother would be released. The command said it carefully examined the video clip before taking action.

The police explained that the incident originated on January 1, 2026, when the youth leader of Jesse community arrested some suspects and brought them to the police station.

Among those arrested was the complainant’s younger brother, later identified as Israel Onojeruo, aged 20. His arrest followed the confession of another suspect, Okoro Desmond, who reportedly claimed that he sold a gun to Israel.

The suspects were subsequently transferred to the State Anti Cult Unit for further investigation. However, in response to the extortion allegation, CP Aina Adesola was said to have listened to the complaint and ordered immediate steps to address the issue.

“The CP has directed the AC X Squad to investigate the allegation levelled against the officers,” the statement said. “The police constable identified as Bright in the video has been detained at the command headquarters, while the DPO has been removed from Jesse Division and deployed to the command headquarters pending the outcome of the investigation.”

The command added that the redeployment of the DPO was also linked to a series of complaints of extortion and unprofessional conduct allegedly made against him from different quarters.

CP Aina assured members of the public that the command would not shield any officer found culpable. He said, “If after investigation the officers are found to have acted in an unprofessional manner, they will be dealt with decisively in line with the Police Act and relevant regulations, to serve as a deterrent to others.”

The CP further emphasised that the Delta State Command under his leadership would not tolerate extortion, intimidation, incivility, or any form of unprofessional behaviour by officers.

He urged members of the public to report misconduct through the Command Complaint Response Unit via 09011112311, 09155570008, 09064308018, and 09066575187.
