Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed his administration’s support for the Nigerian Armed Forces while praising Tinubu for what he described as renewed and decisive leadership in strengthening national security.

The governor spoke during a special church service held to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta.

Abiodun said the Federal Government, under Tinubu, had demonstrated strong commitment to the protection of lives and property through deliberate efforts aimed at improving Nigeria’s security architecture.

According to him, these efforts align with the Renewed Hope Agenda and reflect a clear resolve to address security challenges confronting the country.

He noted that the current administration had focused on improved intelligence coordination, stronger inter agency collaboration, better welfare packages for military personnel, and the provision of modern equipment for the armed forces.

The governor said these interventions were beginning to yield positive outcomes and restore public confidence in the nation’s security system.

Represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako Oyedele, Abiodun urged Nigerians to complement government efforts by promoting peace, unity, and patriotism, stressing that national security was a collective responsibility.

He described Armed Forces Remembrance Day as a period of thanksgiving, sober reflection, and renewed commitment to national values, saying the occasion went beyond honouring fallen heroes to reaffirming the principles of courage, sacrifice, and selflessness for which they laid down their lives.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of serving officers, veterans, and families of fallen heroes, noting that caring for them was a national obligation and not an act of charity.

In his sermon titled, “Greater Love: The Sacrifice of the Servicemen,” the Bishop of Christ Chapel of Grace and Mercy, Ven. Dr. Samson Popoola, said there was no greater expression of love than the sacrifices made by men and women of the armed forces who gave their lives in service to the nation.

He explained that their sacrifices extended beyond the battlefield, including long periods away from family and the loss of personal comfort.

“We are gathered here to honour the fallen heroes, those living with disabilities, and those still alive. Armed Forces Remembrance Day is a moment of sober reflection, as the peace Nigerians enjoy today came at a great cost,” he said.

Ven. Popoola described sacrifice as the true language of love, urging Christians to live holy and selfless lives. He cited biblical examples from Esther 4:16, as well as the account of Abel and Cain, to emphasize the power of selfless sacrifice.

The cleric called on government to continue supporting families of fallen heroes and urged citizens to show them compassion and appreciation.

He also encouraged serving personnel not to lose hope, assuring them that their sacrifices in the defence of the nation are divinely recognised.

The service featured special prayers for Nigeria, the Ogun State Government, Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Armed Forces, political leaders, religious leaders, and traditional rulers.
