The Abeokuta Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, ABEOCCIMA, has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of its 1st Deputy President, Engr. Lekan Jiboku, just days after his inauguration into office.

Jiboku was inaugurated on 18 June 2026, but his tenure was cut short following his sudden passing, an incident that has sent shockwaves through the Chamber and the wider business community.

The Director General of the Chamber, Alhaji R. O. Maku, confirmed the development in a brief statement.

“We regret to announce the sudden demise of our 1st Deputy President, Engr. Lekan Jiboku, which happened yesterday. May his gentle soul rest in peace. Thanks,” he said.

Reacting, the President of ABEOCCIMA, Pastor Ibrahim Bada, described the late Jiboku as a committed leader whose passion for service was evident even within his short stay in office.

In a condolence message, Bada said the news came as a painful shock, noting that he had spoken with the deceased shortly before his passing.

“It is with profound shock, deep sadness, and a heavy heart that I received the devastating news of the sudden passing of our dear brother, colleague, and friend, Engr. Lekan Jiboku, the 1st Deputy President of ABEOCCIMA,” he said.

He added that the late deputy president had already begun contributing meaningfully to the Chamber’s activities.

“Barely a few days into his new assignment, he demonstrated the same commitment, dedication, and passion that had always characterized his service to the Chamber,” Bada stated.

The President also recalled their last conversation, describing it as deeply painful in hindsight.

“Just two days ago, while attending a convention, he called me, expressing his usual concern, enthusiasm, and commitment to the affairs of the Chamber. Never did I imagine that the conversation would be our last,” he said.

Bada described the death as a reminder of life’s uncertainty, praying for strength for the bereaved family and the Chamber community.

“At this difficult moment, I pray that the Almighty God will comfort and sustain his wife, children, family members, friends, and the entire Chamber family,” he said.

He also urged unity among members of the Chamber during the period of mourning, adding prayers for divine protection over all members.

On behalf of his family and the Chamber, Bada extended condolences to the family of the deceased, praying for eternal rest for the late engineer.
