Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, at the weekend, inspected ongoing road construction projects in the Ogun East Senatorial District, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development under its Urban Regeneration Scheme.

During the inspection, Abiodun emphasized that his administration has successfully redefined the state’s developmental trajectory, a momentum he insists must be sustained.

“We have rewritten Ogun’s development stride, and this must continue,” he stated.

The governor highlighted ongoing efforts to expand investment opportunities in the state, including the establishment of a dry port and the construction of over 4,000 affordable housing units across Abeokuta, Ilaro, Sagamu, Iperu, Ijebu-Ode, and Ota.

He further disclosed plans to extend the Blue Rail Line from Agbado to Kajola and the Red Line from Okokomaiko in Lagos to Agbara in Ogun State.

“We have built over 4,000, going to 5,000, affordable houses for medium and upper-income earners. In Ilaro, they are eager for me to commission the houses. We have them in Iperu, Sagamu, and two in Abeokuta. Our Urban Regeneration started at the GRA in Abeokuta, where we also built the PMB Estate,” Abiodun noted.

Reflecting on the progress at the state’s international airport, he added: “Seeing the conveyor belts, metal detectors, and luggage scanners in operation, I said to myself, ‘Something new has happened in Ogun State,’ and this must be sustained.”

The governor revealed that his administration has identified and awarded 11 roads with significant economic impact for reconstruction, assuring that fairness, equity, and inclusivity would guide project execution.

“There are many roads we would like to construct, but the truth is that no administration can reconstruct all the required roads in eight years—it’s impossible,” he admitted. “However, we have achieved remarkable progress, and I can confidently say that we have probably built more roads than two past administrations combined.”

At Ode-Remo, Abiodun announced that the 12-kilometer Akaka-Ilara-Ilisan road contract had been awarded, while construction on the Ode-Isara road would soon commence.

While inspecting the 15-kilometer Sagamu-Iperu-Ode-Sapaade road, he described it as an essential bypass to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. He explained that the road was initially planned as a single carriageway but was upgraded to a dual carriageway due to cooperation from residents who voluntarily removed their structures to accommodate the project.

Abiodun also visited the 14-kilometer Sagamu-Ayepe road in Sagamu Local Government Area, confirming that the first phase of the project is already underway in a densely populated area.

“We are committed to constructing all critical roads with economic value in Sagamu before the end of this administration,” he assured.

At the Igbeba Junction-Yidi road, the governor commended the quality of work done, particularly the three-foot drainage system designed to prevent flooding.

“Before reconstruction, this road was like a swimming pool,” he remarked. “Our engineers have provided a permanent solution to the persistent erosion issues in this city. Before the end of my tenure, erosion here will be a thing of the past.”

Expressing gratitude to the people for entrusting him with leadership, Abiodun pledged continued investment in education, agriculture, youth empowerment, job creation, and infrastructure.

“We will not relent in ensuring Ogun State remains a model of progress and development,” he assured.
