Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief (Mrs) Modupe Adebayo, wife of the late Military Administrator of the defunct Western Region, Major-General Adeyinka Adebayo.
The governor described her as a woman of exceptional strength, intellect, and unwavering commitment to her family and nation.
Abiodun, in a condolence message on Sunday, noted that Mrs. Adebayo, who breathed her last on March 8—the exact eighth anniversary of her husband’s passing—played a pivotal role in supporting her husband through the challenges of military service.
He highlighted her contributions to his successful leadership in various capacities, including as Military Administrator of the Western Region, Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, and Chief of Army Staff.
Reflecting on her legacy, Abiodun stated: “The passing of Chief Mrs. Modupe Adebayo at 85, though a sad event, is one that calls for gratitude to Almighty God for a life well spent. She was a pillar of strength to her husband during turbulent military years and remained a guiding force in her family and community.”
He also praised her active role in the political development of Ekiti State, noting that her efforts contributed to the emergence of her son, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, as the first democratically elected governor of the state in 1999.
“Mama Modupe Adebayo was a woman of great intellect and deep faith. She not only helped her husband navigate complex moments in Nigerian history but also provided invaluable counsel in the democratic era, helping to stabilize Ekiti State and contribute to national development,” the governor added.
Governor Abiodun extended his heartfelt condolences to the Adebayo family, praying for divine comfort and for the soul of the departed matriarch to rest in peace.
