The Ogun State Government says it has delivered over 5,000 housing units across the state since 2019, with plans underway to raise the figure to 10,000 units by 2027.

Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed this in a progress update shared on his official X handle, where he reviewed the achievements of his administration in the housing and urban renewal sector over the past six years.

According to the governor, the housing programme has been deliberately structured to address the state’s housing deficit while ensuring affordability, quality, and long-term sustainability. He noted that the estates delivered so far cut across Ogun’s three senatorial districts, reflecting what he described as an inclusive development strategy.

Abiodun said the housing drive has also delivered strong economic value to subscribers, particularly civil servants and low to middle-income earners. He explained that two-bedroom bungalows sold for about ₦4.95 million to civil servants and ₦5 million to members of the public in locations such as Kobape and Kainji have appreciated significantly in value.

“Today, those same houses are valued at over ₦25 million in the open market. This shows that beyond providing shelter, our housing policy has also created wealth for homeowners,” the governor stated.

He added that several previously neglected urban areas are now undergoing visible transformation as a result of the housing programme. Areas like Ibara GRA in Abeokuta, once described as rundown, are being renewed to reflect the image of a modern state capital.

The governor further disclosed that housing projects have been strategically spread across key locations, including Kobape and Kainji in Ogun Central, Ilaro in Ogun West, and Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, and the Gateway Aviation Village in Iperu, Ogun East.

Reflecting on the journey so far, Abiodun said, “We have remained deliberate and committed in our resolve to transform Ogun State’s housing and urban environment. Our housing drive, anchored on affordability, quality, and sustainability, has delivered estates across the three senatorial districts. We remain resolute in our commitment to making housing more accessible and reaching our target of 10,000 units by 2027.”

He added that the administration intends to sustain the momentum, noting that the housing projects are designed to create safe, planned, and investment-friendly communities.

“By maintaining this pace, we are not just building houses. We are building communities and reshaping the economic future of Ogun State,” the governor said.
