Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Friday, June 27, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1447 AH.

The announcement was made on Thursday through a statement by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Rasheed Aderibigbe, who explained that the work-free day will enable Muslim faithful in the state to celebrate the occasion with their families.

Governor Adeleke, in his Hijrah message delivered by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, described the Islamic New Year as a time for deep reflection, renewed faith, and commitment to peaceful coexistence.

“The Hijrah reminds us of the strength found in unity, the courage to stand for truth, and the grace of peaceful coexistence,” Adeleke said.

He urged Muslims to draw inspiration from the Prophet’s migration by embracing the values of sacrifice, perseverance, and justice in their daily lives.

The governor also called on residents of the state to use the occasion to promote love, mutual respect, and harmony, noting that diversity remains one of Osun’s greatest strengths.
