Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally announced his entry into the Accord Party, putting an end to weeks of speculation that followed his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party.
The declaration was made on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, where top national and state leaders of Accord were present to welcome him.
Adeleke explained that he joined the party on November 6 after several rounds of consultation with political leaders and community stakeholders.
He said the move was driven by his desire to seek a second term on a platform he described as people centered, adding that the focus of Accord aligns with his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and citizens’ wellbeing.
He said he made the decision after long deliberations with those he considered key voices in the state.
According to him, residents of Osun are already aware of the reasons behind this shift and will understand the need for a united front as the 2026 election approaches.
He noted that ongoing projects and reforms in the state make continuity important.
Adeleke said, “I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re election in 2026. This was after weeks of consultation and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders.
Stakeholders and residents of Osun State are aware of why we are taking this important decision. We intend to pursue a second term in office on the platform of the Accord Party to complete the ongoing delivery of good governance and democratic dividends, which have been applauded at home and abroad.”
He told the gathering that his embrace of Accord was strengthened by the party’s philosophy of welfarism, which mirrors the goals of his government.
He added that welfare remains the core of leadership and that all policies rolled out since he assumed office aimed at improving the living standards of workers and the general population.
He said, “I welcome our party leaders into the Osun State Government House. You are now part of us, as I am also now part of you. We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large. At this historical point, our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for the elections.”
“We have a duty to ensure inclusive leadership where the interests of all groups are considered. Our party, Accord Party, is here to take over Osun governance and sustain the delivery of good governance in our dear state.”
Adeleke encouraged Accord members in all districts of the state to rally around the new platform as preparations intensify ahead of August 2026. He listed several communities across the state and urged residents to support the movement for continuity.
He said, “Since I joined the party more than a month ago, I have been fascinated by the philosophy of this great party. The focus on people’s welfare should always be at the heart of public leadership. The primary essence of government is the welfare and well being of the people.”
He stressed that his administration has placed welfare at the center of all decisions. According to him, infrastructure upgrades and social services across Osun have improved under his watch and the state has enjoyed better service delivery in recent years.
He added that Accord represents the new path forward for the state and that the party will champion continuity when the polls open next year.
He said, “Osun voted for good governance in 2022, and they will support continuity in 2026. The mass of our people are for continuity, and Accord is our party for victory next year. In accordance with the will of our stakeholders and to accord deep respect for the wishes of the Osun people, I hereby declare for the Accord Party.”
Adeleke had earlier announced his resignation from the PDP on December 2, citing unresolved leadership crises at the national level. In a message shared on his Instagram page, he revealed that he submitted his letter to the party leadership at Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4.
He said, “Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025. I thank the party and its many members and supporters for the opportunities they have provided me, first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and now as Governor of Osun State.”
