Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, saying the leadership crisis troubling the party at the national level made his continued membership impossible.
Adeleke made the decision public in a statement posted on his Instagram page late Monday night.
He confirmed that his resignation letter was submitted on November 4 to party officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government.
He wrote, “Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025.”
The governor also expressed gratitude to party members for the time he spent under the PDP platform. “I thank the party and its many members and supporters for the opportunities they have provided me, first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and now as Governor of Osun State,” he said.
Before his resignation, there had been reports within the Osun chapter of the party suggesting that Adeleke might not pursue the PDP ticket for the 2026 governorship poll unless the national leadership crisis was resolved.
Party officials had earlier expressed hope that a resolution, recognised by the electoral commission, would influence the governor’s decision. They said the prolonged disputes at the centre were already affecting preparations ahead of the next election year.
