The Imole Campaign Council has expressed sympathy with members of the All Progressives Congress and the family of a party supporter who died following a truck accident that disrupted an APC procession ahead of a campaign rally in Ede, Osun State.

The condolence message was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesperson for the council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq.

The council described the incident as tragic, noting that it was deeply saddened by reports that a truck that allegedly suffered brake failure rammed into the APC procession, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

According to the statement, “Our campaign council is visibly shaken by reports that the accident involving a truck who lost its brake recorded a fatality while several other victims are in critical condition and receiving treatment at the hospital.”

The council extended its condolences to the deceased’s family and other victims affected by the accident.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family of the departed and everyone touched by the loss,” the statement said.

It added that those receiving treatment remained in its thoughts and prayers, saying, “To those who are in critical conditions and fighting for recovery in the hospital, our thoughts and prayers are with them and we wish them quick recoveries.”

The council further stated that political differences should not override compassion during moments of grief.

“As a campaign council, we are bound by shared humanity to stand in solidarity with our fellow citizens affected by this tragedy, offering our comfort to ease the burden of grief,” it said.

However, the council criticised the conduct of the AMBO Campaign Council, alleging that it had failed to publicly sympathise with the victims and their families.

“We are however appalled that, many hours after the unfortunate incident, the AMBO Campaign Council has not deemed it fit to honour the memory of the dead APC member and injured ones in any manner,” the statement read.

The council also alleged that APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, continued campaign activities despite the tragedy, describing such actions as insensitive.

It stated, “We submit that singing and shouting party slogans when families mourn as a result of an accident involving supporters amount to reckless display of cruelty and inhumanity which further suggest that the APC candidate is utterly unfit for leadership.”

The council prayed for the repose of the deceased and called for the protection of residents and political supporters before and after the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
