Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has commended the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for his commitment to the rule of law, describing his obedience to the Supreme Court ruling on local government administration as a “bold and commendable step forward.”

Adeyanju praised Fubara’s directive to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to conduct fresh local government elections and his decision to appoint Heads of Local Government Administration as interim leaders of the 23 LGAs.

He noted that these actions reflect Fubara’s dedication to constitutional governance.

“Governor Fubara has demonstrated a rare commitment to democratic principles by ensuring that outgoing local government chairmen hand over power by Monday, March 3, 2025, in line with the Supreme Court’s ruling outlawing caretaker arrangements,” Adeyanju stated.

Despite political distractions, Adeyanju emphasized that Fubara must keep the welfare of Rivers people as his priority. “Your Excellency, Nigerians across the country are rooting for you. The political landscape may evolve, but we urge you to remain steadfast, focused, and resolute in your mission to serve the good people of Rivers State,” he said.

Taking a direct jab at former Governor Nyesom Wike, Adeyanju called for firm action against his political influence.

“Since Wike has chosen to make himself the black sheep of the Rivers family, he must be dealt with decisively. Rivers State is not his personal fiefdom, and he cannot go against the will of the people. Governor Fubara must ensure that Wike’s opposition to progress is met with the full weight of his authority,” he declared.

Expressing confidence in Fubara’s future political strength, Adeyanju predicted that the governor would emerge stronger by 2027.

“Your leadership is a beacon of hope, and we stand resolute in our support for you. Stay true to your principles, remain unshaken, and continue to work tirelessly for the good of Rivers people. The nation watches, and history will judge you kindly,” he concluded.
