The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, Prof. Yilwatda Nentawe, has been appointed as the substantive National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His appointment was confirmed on Thursday during the 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party, held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

The motion for his nomination was moved by the Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, and seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

Immediately after the motion was adopted, Prof. Nentawe took the oath of office at exactly 2:50 pm in the presence of top party leaders including President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and several state governors.

Speaking shortly after he was sworn in, Nentawe said, “I consider this not just an appointment but a call to rebuild trust, energise our base, and carry every member of the APC along as we move forward.”

A native of Plateau State in the North Central zone, Nentawe was the APC’s governorship candidate in the 2023 general election. Until his latest appointment, he served in the federal cabinet as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development.

President Tinubu, who attended the event, was seen exchanging pleasantries with party members and commended the NEC for the smooth transition of leadership within the party structure.
