The Olowu of Owu Kuta, His Royal Majesty, Oba Hammed Adekunle Makama Oyelude, CON, Tegbosun II, has been conferred with the title of Royal Grand Patron by the Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation, in recognition of his sterling leadership and unrelenting commitment to social development, particularly in the fight against drug abuse and youth rehabilitation.

The Foundation, a prominent non-governmental organization focused on the campaign against drug abuse and misuse, led a high-powered delegation to the palace of the monarch in Kuta, Osun State, where the award was formally presented.

In his opening address, the President and Founder of the Foundation, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, commended Oba Makama for his consistent support of the organization’s mission and described him as a beacon of hope to Nigerian youths.

“Kabiyesi has been a dependable voice and a frontline advocate of our cause.”

“His Majesty’s selfless acts in promoting youth development, empowering women, and encouraging the ideals of our Foundation remain unmatched,” Wahab said.

Wahab acknowledged that the monarch’s influence and involvement had greatly enhanced the visibility and impact of the Foundation’s campaigns across South-West Nigeria.

In a statement inscribed on the honorary plaque presented to the monarch, the Foundation expressed its heartfelt appreciation:

“In profound appreciation for your esteemed leadership and unwavering commitment to the welfare of Nigerians and beyond, the Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation is honoured to confer upon you the esteemed title of Royal Grand Patron.”

“Your Majesty’s dedication to the advancement of our people and your tireless efforts in promoting peace, unity, and development have not gone unnoticed. Your exemplary leadership has been a beacon of hope and inspiration to us all.”

“We celebrate your rich heritage, your wisdom, and your vision for a brighter future. As our Royal Grand Patron, we look forward to your continued guidance and support. Thank you for your invaluable contributions to our community. We are forever grateful.”

In his response, Oba Oyelude Makama expressed deep gratitude to the Foundation for the recognition and pledged continued support to the cause.

“I’m truly honoured to be considered worthy of this title. The Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation has exceeded expectations in the fight against drug abuse. Their collaborations with NDLEA and community-based efforts are commendable,” the monarch added.

Oba Makama stressed the urgent need for more government and institutional support for such grassroots organizations, stating that their impact is already evident in many communities.

“I want to call on the Chairman of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), to partner more actively with this Foundation. Their advocacy efforts are saving lives, and with more resources, they can do even more,” he noted.

He praised the Foundation’s alignment with the national anti-drug mandate and emphasized that non-governmental efforts must be recognized as essential components of the fight against substance abuse.

Accompanying the Founder were key members of the Foundation’s leadership team, including Mrs. Elizabeth Eweje (Coordinator), Alhaja Mutiat Olafunni Rabiu, Mr. Olalekan Ayobami Ebun Oro, and Mr. Adejola Adeyemi, who serves as the Public Relations Officer of the Foundation and is also the Founder of Tropic Reporters.
