Popular Fuji musician and Olori Omooba of Ijebuland, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM1, has dragged the Ogun State Government and key stakeholders in the Ijebu traditional institution before the Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu Ode over the selection of the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

KWAM1, in a suit marked HC3/238/2025, is asking the court to stop the ongoing process for the selection and installation of a new Awujale, pending the determination of his substantive case. The suit, dated December 16, 2025, seeks an interim injunction restraining the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, and five others from taking further steps on the succession process.

Those joined in the suit include the Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government, Dare Alebiosu, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, the Secretary of the local government, Oke Adebanjo, the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, Dr Olorogun Sunny Kuku, and the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi.

The court action followed the rejection of Ayinde’s claim to the vacant Awujale stool by the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, which is responsible for producing the next Awujale. The ruling house had earlier insisted that the Fuji musician is not a member of the royal lineage eligible for the throne. KWAM1, however, maintains that he is connected to the Jadiara Royal House under the broader Fusengbuwa Ruling House.

In a motion ex parte filed before High Court 2, Ayinde said the application was brought pursuant to relevant provisions of the Ogun State High Court Civil Procedure Rules, 2024, Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and the inherent powers of the court. He urged the court to restrain the respondents from continuing with the selection process in order to preserve the subject matter of the suit.

The musician also asked the court to grant an interim injunction to protect his interest and prevent any action that could render the case nugatory before it is fully heard and determined.

As of the time of filing this report, the court had not fixed a date for the hearing of the matter.
