ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, is currently experiencing a global outage, with users across multiple regions reporting disruptions in access and performance.
The issues began around 9:00 AM WAT, prompting frustration among users who took to social media to voice their concerns.
Downdetector, a service monitoring online outages, recorded a sharp spike in problem reports, confirming that the outage spans several locations worldwide.
OpenAI’s official status page acknowledged the issue, stating:
“Some users are encountering elevated error rates and latency with ChatGPT, Sora, and our APIs. We are actively investigating.”
By 11:23 AM WAT, OpenAI provided an update, labeling the ChatGPT issue as a “partial outage” while separately noting “elevated error rates” for Sora, its text-to-video tool.
Some users reported delayed responses from ChatGPT, with the AI taking longer than usual to generate replies. However, OpenAI has not yet identified the root cause or provided a timeline for full service restoration.
“We are continuing to investigate this issue and will provide updates as we learn more,” the company stated.
As of now, there is no confirmation on when normal operations will resume.
