The Ogun State House of Assembly has re-invited the management of CNBM Mining Investment Company, located along Atan-Odolu Road in Ekinrugbudu, Ijebu-North East, to appear before its Committee on Environment on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

The decision follows the company’s failure to honour an earlier invitation scheduled for March 18, 2025, regarding a petition filed by Concerned Ijebu North-East Indigenes, accusing the firm of damaging public infrastructure and failing in its corporate social responsibilities (CSR).

Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, Hon. Samsideen Lawal, issued a stern warning to the mining company, insisting that its representatives must appear to address the allegations.

“The petitioners have raised serious concerns, particularly regarding the destruction of the Atan-Eruwon Road, which was constructed by the state government, as well as the weakening of the building structure housing the General Hospital, Atan, due to mining activities. These are critical issues that demand immediate answers,” Lawal stated.

He further emphasized that the company’s alleged lack of meaningful CSR initiatives for host communities remains a source of growing discontent.

Flanked by committee members Hon. Dickson Awolaja, Hon. Babatunde Tella, and Hon. Seun Adesanya, Lawal cautioned that failure to comply with the new invitation could prompt the Assembly to invoke Section 129 of the Nigerian Constitution, allowing lawmakers to issue a warrant compelling the company’s management to appear.

“The House of Assembly will not hesitate to exercise its constitutional powers if CNBM Mining disregards this invitation again. Businesses operating in Ogun State must respect the law, protect public infrastructure, and prioritize the welfare of their host communities,” he added.
