Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) has clarified that Mr Kolawole Muyiwa, recently convicted of raping a female student, was never employed by the institution.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, described rape as a demeaning act and emphasized that the university maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward such crimes.
She explained that Muyiwa was an intruder brought into the campus by a lecturer, Mr Sunday Fawowe, who allowed him access to his office where the assault occurred.
“The convict exploited the opportunity to violate a student who was a minor at the time in 2021.”
“The university reported the matter, leading to his prosecution and conviction. However, contrary to the court’s judgment, he was never a staff member of LASUED,” Lafiaji-Okuneye said.
LASUED reaffirmed its commitment to protecting students and ensuring that intruders or unverified individuals do not gain access to university facilities.
