A community development advocate and thought leader, Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, has said Nigeria’s strength as a nation lies in its unity, democratic resilience, and commitment to reform rather than in external labels or perceptions.
Wahab made this known while reacting to the recent designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, a classification often associated with issues surrounding religious freedom and governance.
He said the designation should not define the nation but instead inspire reflection and renewed commitment to values that promote justice, inclusivity, and peace.
According to him, “Nigeria must not be judged by isolated incidents or foreign interpretations, but by our collective resolve to uphold democracy, protect human rights, and promote interfaith harmony.”
Wahab noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda had continued to demonstrate the government’s commitment to strengthening national institutions and ensuring that all Nigerians enjoy equal protection under the law.
“President Tinubu has consistently shown that Nigeria remains steadfast in its belief in freedom, fairness, and unity,” Wahab stated. “This is a time for constructive engagement, not defensiveness. We must use this as an opportunity to showcase our progress as a responsible, reform-driven democracy.”
He urged Nigerians to maintain confidence in the nation’s growth trajectory and contribute meaningfully to shaping a country that commands respect through integrity, dialogue, and principled leadership.
“Our duty as citizens and thought leaders is to uphold our national integrity and build bridges of understanding. Nigeria’s true identity lies in her ability to rise above challenges and lead with purpose,” Wahab added.
