The Cross River State Police Command has announced the appointment of ASP Sunday Eitokpah Akata as its new Police Public Relations Officer.
The appointment was approved by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, according to a statement issued by the Cross River State Police Command and signed by the outgoing PPRO, CSP Irene Ugbo, ANIPR.
ASP Akata, an indigene of Edo State, was commissioned into the Nigeria Police Force in 2022 after completing a five year training programme at the Nigeria Police Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry.
He has undergone several professional and specialized courses, including combat operations and counter terrorism training at the Police Mobile Force Training School in Ende Hills, Nasarawa State, citizenship and leadership training at Shere Hills in Jos, forensic analysis on basic crime scene management and detective courses at Wudil, Kano State, as well as an advanced detective course at the Police Staff College, Jos.
The new police spokesperson is also a certified advanced facilitator under the Nigeria Police Reform Programme and a member of the National Institute of Social Media Analysts, Abuja.
Before his latest deployment, ASP Akata served as Divisional Traffic Officer at A Division in Calabar and later as Officer in Charge of the Cross River State Police Complaint Response Unit, where he was noted for professionalism and discipline.
He takes over from CSP Irene Ugbo, who has now handed over the responsibilities of the office.
