The Enugu State Police Command has arrested four suspected drug peddlers in separate intelligence-led operations in and around Enugu metropolis, recovering a total of N1.8 million and substances suspected to be cannabis and hard drugs.
The arrests were carried out by operatives of the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) and the Anti-Cultism Squad as part of the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and cult-related crimes.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, the SWAT team, acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected criminal hideout behind New Market, Enugu, on January 26, 2026.
A 46-year-old woman, Omeru Nkechi, was arrested and items recovered from her included a large bag of suspected Indian hemp, electric wires, a water pumping machine, a POS machine, two ATM cards and the sum of N1.8 million.
In a related operation, the Anti-Cultism Squad, while on patrol on January 25, 2026, stormed identified black spots in Obeagu, Asata and the Holy Ghost Railway Area.
Three male suspects were arrested during the operation. They are Anielozie Emmanuel (21), Ekoh Miracle (20) and Nwachukwu Michael (27), who is alleged to be a member of the Vikings Confraternity.
Recovered items from the trio included 32 small containers and one sachet of substances suspected to be cannabis, along with 12 wrapped pills suspected to be hard drugs.
The Police Command stated that investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the drug distribution network and dismantle their operations.
Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating drug abuse, cultism and all forms of criminality in the state, urging residents to remain law-abiding and to provide credible information to the police.
