The Federal Government has refuted a social media message claiming that all schools across the country have been directed to shut down from November 24, 2025.
The Director of Press and Public Relations in the Federal Ministry of Education, Folasade Boriowo, said in Abuja on Saturday that the message did not come from the ministry and urged the public to disregard it. She explained that the claim circulating online was false and capable of causing needless fear.
She reminded the public that the only recent directive from the government concerned the closure of forty one federal secondary schools located in areas considered to be at high risk, following the rise in abductions of school children in Niger and Kebbi States.
According to her, the message that went viral did not originate from the Federal Government, the Ministry of Education, any state ministry or any known security agency. She said, “The Federal Ministry of Education hereby informs the general public that a message currently circulating on social media platforms, alleging that schools nationwide have been directed to close from 24th November 2025, is false, misleading and did not originate from the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, any State Ministry of Education or any recognised security agency.”
She urged Nigerians to rely only on verified information issued through official channels. She asked the public not to share announcements or advisories that come from unverified sources.
Boriowo added, “Any announcement, advisory or notice coming from unofficial or unverified sources should be ignored and not shared. Members of the public are urged to always verify the authenticity of information before circulating it in order to curb the spread of misinformation.”
