Abuja – Retired General Christopher Musa, the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, on Friday officially assumed duty as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence at the Ministry of Defence, Ship House, Abuja.
Musa, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday following the resignation of former minister Muhammed Badaru, received Senate confirmation on Thursday.
His appointment has been widely welcomed across various sectors, with many commending his record of firm and innovative leadership during his tenure as defence chief between 2023 and 2025.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the new minister arrived at the ministry at about 11:10 am, conducted an inspection of the quarter guard in line with military tradition, and exchanged pleasantries with service chiefs and top officials.
Musa is currently holding a closed-door meeting with service chiefs and directors of the ministry to outline priorities for his tenure.
Observers expect Musa’s leadership to further strengthen defence operations, given his extensive military experience and prior service at the helm of Nigeria’s armed forces.
