Tragedy struck along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday morning as four persons lost their lives in a ghastly road accident that involved seven vehicles in Oyo State.

The accident, which occurred around the Iwo Road axis of Ibadan, involved three Nissan Micra taxis and three articulated trucks. Eyewitnesses at the scene described it as a horrific crash that left several victims trapped in the wreckage.

The Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rosemary Alo, confirmed the incident. She stated that four people were killed while one other victim is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

“The accident involved seven vehicles. Four were killed while one is currently receiving treatment at the hospital,” Alo confirmed.

She noted that the injured victims were rescued by officers from Sanyo Police Station, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at Adeoyo morgue, Ring Road, Ibadan.

Alo urged motorists to exercise caution while driving, especially on major highways, to prevent avoidable loss of lives.

It was gathered that other persons involved in the crash escaped unhurt and continued on their journey after the incident.

Sanyo Police Division has since taken custody of the accidented vehicles. According to the FRSC, one of the corpses has already been released to family members with the permission of the Divisional Police Officer, Sanyo.

Rescue teams including FRSC officials, the police, and Amotekun operatives were seen managing the situation and clearing the wreckage to restore the flow of traffic.
