Chaos broke out on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday morning after a private car plunged off the Otedola Bridge, leaving all four passengers onboard with various degrees of injuries.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred in the early hours, throwing the area into a frenzy as shocked commuters and passersby rushed to help. Emergency responders were yet to arrive at the scene when bystanders began struggling to extricate the victims from the mangled vehicle.
“I was on my way to Berger when I saw the car lose control and somersault off the bridge. We ran there quickly to help. It was terrifying,” said a witness, Kehinde Ayoola, who was among the early responders.
As of the time of filing this report, the condition of the victims remained unclear, although no fatalities had been officially confirmed.
Traffic in the area swiftly built up as motorists slowed down to observe the scene, with some abandoning their vehicles to offer assistance.
“We appeal to the government to put up better barriers and caution signs on this bridge. This is not the first time a tragedy like this has happened here,” lamented another concerned commuter, Bisi Adekunle.
