Abeokuta – The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has appointed one of its distinguished alumni, Prof. Olusegun Idowu, as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), marking another milestone in the institution’s tradition of nurturing homegrown leadership.
The election took place today, November 27, 2025, during the 232nd Statutory Meeting of the University Senate.
Prof. Idowu, who until recently served as Director of the Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR), brings decades of experience and a record of excellence in teaching, research, and university administration.
Mr. Olasunkanmi Olajide, Ag. Head of FUNAAB’s Directorate of Public Relations, described the appointment as “a symbolic elevation of an alumnus who has consistently demonstrated loyalty and commitment to the University.”
He succeeds Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, who recently assumed duty as Vice-Chancellor of Aletheia University, Ago-Iwoye.
A seasoned academic, Prof. Idowu is a Registered Animal Scientist with over 28 years of service at FUNAAB. His career began as a Graduate Assistant in the College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (COLANIM) and progressed to Professor of Monogastric Animal Nutrition.
Beyond the classroom, he has served in key leadership positions, including Head of Department of Animal Nutrition, Director of Distance Learning Centre, and Chairman of various Senate committees.
His portfolio also extends to national service, currently serving as a Federal Government appointee on the Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
Colleagues and stakeholders laud him for his dedication to academic excellence, administrative efficiency, and community-focused development, qualities seen as central to his new role.
