Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has approved the recruitment of 1,010 secondary school teachers in Ondo State, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to addressing the shortage of educators in public schools.
The approval follows the completion of a rigorous recruitment process conducted by the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), which screened thousands of applicants last year.
The final list of successful candidates will be published online today and displayed at TESCOM headquarters and zonal offices across the state from Tuesday.
The newly employed teachers are expected to begin documentation immediately.
“In line with the Governor’s directive, this recruitment process has been guided by the specific needs of our public schools, especially in underserved rural areas,” an official involved in the exercise stated.
Governor Aiyedatiwa had previously approved the employment of 1,000 secondary school teachers and 1,000 primary school teachers, kick-starting the recruitment drive by TESCOM and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
While the secondary school teachers’ list has now been finalized, the selection process for primary school teachers is still being concluded.
The Governor has consistently expressed concern over the shortage of teaching staff, particularly in rural communities, and emphasized the importance of ensuring that the recruitment process aligns with the pressing needs of schools across the state.
This initiative is part of the broader efforts of the Aiyedatiwa administration to revamp the education sector. Just last Friday, the Governor approved the disbursement of N633 million to cover the registration fees of students sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In another significant move, he also sanctioned the upgrade and conversion of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into a University of Agriculture and Agribusiness.
