A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Safwan Adamu Fade, has lost his life after being brutally attacked by a group of hoodlums in the Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack took place at the Pankshin township stadium, where the assailants allegedly descended on the young man, leaving him with severe injuries.

Confirming the tragic incident, Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, disclosed at the Command’s headquarters in Jos on Tuesday that two suspects—Samuel Dang Kat and Zatshinen Wubwerwe—had been arrested in connection with the crime.

“On 23/01/25 at about 07:00 am, we received a report from one Umbule Boreng Reuben of Pankshin LGA, who reported that on 22/01/25 at about 06:00 pm, one Safwan Adamu Fade, an NYSC corps member serving at FCE Pankshin, was beaten and severely injured by unknown hoodlums at the Pankshin township stadium,” Adesina stated.

Following the report, the police dispatched a team to the scene, rushing the victim to the hospital for medical attention. “The victim was treated and declared stable by the medical doctor on duty. However, due to complications, he was transferred to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), where he eventually succumbed to his injuries,” Adesina explained.

The police commissioner assured that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects. “In the course of our investigation, two suspects, Samuel Dang Kat and Zatshinen Wubwerwe, have been identified and arrested in connection with the case. Efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects and ensure they face justice,” he said.

Adesina further noted that within the period under review, the Plateau State Police Command had recorded notable operational successes.

“Our aggressive onslaught against men of the underworld has led to the massive arrest of criminals and the recovery of arms and ammunition,” he stated.

The commissioner expressed gratitude to the residents of Plateau State for their cooperation in the fight against crime and urged continued collaboration.

“Once again, I appreciate the good people of the state, the members of the 4th estate of the realm, and the gallant, professional, and indefatigable police officers of the Command who have contributed to these successes,” he added.
