The Ogun State Government has urged residents to disregard a fraudulent message circulating on social media claiming that Governor Dapo Abiodun is offering a ₦20,000 Youth Empowerment Cash Transfer through an online registration link.
The government made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, who described the message as false, fraudulent and the handiwork of unscrupulous elements seeking to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
According to the statement, there is no ₦20,000 youth cash transfer initiative by the state government, stressing that the online link being circulated has no affiliation with either the Ogun State Government or the Office of the Governor.
The government warned residents against clicking on the link, submitting personal or banking details, or forwarding the message to others, noting that such actions could expose victims to fraud and identity theft.
It urged members of the public to rely only on information released through the official communication channels of the Ogun State Government for authentic announcements on government programmes.
The statement added that security agencies had been notified to investigate those behind the fake message and ensure they are brought to justice.
“The message is false, fraudulent and the handiwork of unscrupulous elements seeking to swindle unsuspecting members of the public using the name and image of Governor Dapo Abiodun,” the statement read.
It added, “Members of the public are strongly advised not to click on the link, submit their personal or banking details, or share the message with others, as doing so could expose them to fraud and identity theft.”
