The death of revered Islamic scholar and Tijjaniyya leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, has been confirmed by his family and close associates, bringing clarity after early morning reports of his passing spread across the country on Thursday.
A former presidential aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, confirmed the cleric’s death in a post on X.
He wrote, “It is with a heavy heart and complete submission to the will of Allah that we receive the news of the passing of our revered leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, one of the leaders of the Tijjaniyya order in Nigeria.”
He prayed that Allah forgives the scholar’s shortcomings and grants him Jannatul Firdaus.
The cleric’s son, Sayyadi Ali Dahiru Usman Bauchi, also confirmed the development.
Speaking from Madinah, he said the family is grateful for his father’s long and impactful life. “It is confirmed. Sheikh has returned to his creator. We are all from Allah and to Him we shall all return. It is time for Sheikh to rest.”
“We thank Almighty Allah. Allah has done everything for us to spare the life of Sheikh till this time. Sheikh’s life was well spent. Alhamdulillah,” he said.
He noted that details of the burial are yet to be decided, adding that it may take place either in Abuja or Bauchi.
As of press time, the family and the Bauchi State Government have not issued an official announcement.
