Emergency responders are battling a massive fire at the Great Nigeria Insurance House on Martins Street in Lagos Island.
The blaze, which started around 5 p.m., has reportedly engulfed multiple floors of the 22-storey building, which houses clothing warehouses, corporate offices, and a few shops.
Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed that the fire began on the fourth floor before spreading upwards.
“Upon arrival of the Shark Response Team, a 22-storey building was found to have been engulfed by fire. Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire started from one of the apartments on the fourth floor and quickly escalated to the sixth floor,” he said.
The Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, added that no casualties have been recorded so far.
She noted that firefighting operations are ongoing and urged the public to stay clear of the area.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire, and rescue efforts continue as teams work to contain the blaze and ensure the safety of those in the building.
