The Oyo State Police Command has announced a series of security measures and traffic restrictions ahead of the coronation of former governor of Oyo State, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, at the historic Mapo Hall, Ibadan.

In a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, said the event is expected to attract a large number of dignitaries and participants from across Nigeria and beyond.

He noted that the Command, working with sister security agencies, has perfected strategies to ensure a safe and peaceful ceremony.

“Special emphasis will be placed on all entry and exit points in and out of the state, with particular attention directed towards the coronation venue,” Osifeso said.

He added that measures such as confidence-building patrols, heightened surveillance, and intelligence-led stop-and-search operations will be deployed across Ibadan and adjoining communities.

The police also announced a list of restricted routes around Mapo Hall from 7:00 am on Friday. These include:

  • Beere Junction towards Mapo Hall
  • Born Photo Junction towards Oja’ba
  • Idi-Arere Junction towards Oja’ba-Itamerin Junction towards Mapo Hall

According to the Command, the restrictions are to manage movement and prevent congestion around the venue. “The Command issues a stern warning against any forms of public disorder, including unauthorised processions and movements within the metropolis before, during, and after the event,” Osifeso stressed.

Residents have been advised to plan their movements accordingly and use alternative routes to avoid delays. The police also urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

The coronation comes following the passage of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who joined his ancestors on July 7, 2025.
