Lagos State Police over the weekend arrested three suspected hoodlums during a raid on the Ajebo community near Agbowa in Ikorodu.
The operation, confirmed by the State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, marks a decisive effort to tackle rising insecurity in the area.
CP Jimoh stated that investigations into the arrests have commenced, assuring residents that due process would be followed.
“The arrest from the information I received is raising tension in the community, and to calm the tension, I asked the DPO to grant them a reliable surety to produce them on Monday when the two factions have been invited for an interview. The outcome of the interview will be communicated for further directives,” he said.
The Baale-elect of Ajebo, Chief Jamiu Ogunlaru, who recently returned after members of his family were rescued from Agbowa Division, appealed for more sustained attention from the police.
“Three of them were arrested yesterday and taken to the Area N Command, but they were released to the man who brought them into the community. We want the Commissioner of Police to properly look at the constant threats and attacks on our lives,” he said.
Residents expressed concern over recurring attacks, alleging that hoodlums receive prior warnings whenever police conduct raids. One resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, said, “Once the police leave, they return and begin to threaten our lives again.”
Chief Ogunlaru also highlighted the lingering fear among victims. “One of my brothers, Ayodele Momodu, who was attacked by the hoodlums, is still afraid to come back to the village,” he noted.
The police have promised to ensure the community’s safety while continuing investigations into the criminal elements causing unrest in Ajebo.
