The Lisabi Grammar School Old Students’ Association (LIGSOSA) at the weekend witnessed a historic transition of leadership as Alhaji Taofik Ogunremi Lawal FCA officially bowed out as the Global President after four years in office.

The event, held at the school premises in Abeokuta, Ogun State, drew together old students, dignitaries, and members of the school community, who celebrated the achievements recorded under Lawal’s tenure between 2021 and 2025.

In his valedictory speech, Lawal expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and reflected on his journey from being a science student at Lisabi Grammar School to becoming the first from that background to lead the Association.

“I am deeply grateful to Almighty Allah and to the entire Old Students of Lisabi Grammar School Abeokuta for the privilege and honour to serve as the Global President of our Association,” he said.

Referencing his school days, Lawal recalled an extract from his testimonial signed by the then Principal, Chief Gbogboade, on July 7, 1977, which read: “Ige behaved responsibly as a Prefect, has abundant zest for active life and was peaceful all round.” He noted that history repeated itself during his second tenure when all allegations against his administration were found to be false by the Omotosho Fact-Finding Committee.

Lawal further highlighted the promises he made upon assuming office in 2021 and the progress achieved over the years.

“On mobilization, I pledged that we would encourage more Sets and Old Students to identify with the Association. Today, over forty Sets now actively participate in the Global Association,” he said.

He added that a functional Association office was built with approval from the Ministry, a clinic was established through the efforts of the 1984 Set, and the Chief Bode Akindele Hostels for Boys and Girls were completed and handed over to the school management, with operations set to begin on September 25.

“Through the support of individuals and various Sets, we now have Lawn Tennis Courts, Food Bays, a refurbished Junior School Administrative Office, a befitting entrance to Lisabi Grammar School Road, a refurbished Principal’s Lodge, and a storey building of six classrooms,” he said.

Lawal also pointed to reforms in leadership and elections within the Association. “I promised that our elections would be more competitive and democratic. By God’s grace, we achieved this as more Old Students showed renewed interest, leading to peaceful and transparent elections,” he added.

As his tenure came to an end, he urged the incoming executives to consolidate on the progress recorded.

“It is my firm belief that the incoming Executives will build on the foundation we have laid and advance the Association to greater heights. I wish them great success in their tenure,” Lawal concluded.
