A 23-year-old man, Abdulazeez Abubakar, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his 20-year-old friend, Sadiq Sani, to death following an argument over satchet water, popularly known as pure water.
Both men were childhood friends and residents along Adamawa Road in the Dutsen-Kura Hausa Area of Minna, the Niger State capital.
Eyewitnesses said the disagreement, which began over water meant for ablution before the Maghrib prayer, quickly escalated into violence.
One resident told our correspondent that what appeared to be a minor misunderstanding soon turned into a fatal confrontation.
During the altercation, Abubakar allegedly drew a sharp object and stabbed Sani, causing injuries from which he later died despite efforts to save him.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident. SP Wasiu Abiodun said, “On 17/12/2025 at about 7.40pm, a fight occurred at Dutsen-Kura between Abdulazeez Abubakar, 23, and Sadiq Sani, 20, which led to Sani’s death.
Police operatives of GRA Division rushed to the scene and arrested Abubakar. The suspect is under investigation and will soon be transferred to the SCID, Minna, for further action.”
