Ibadan – Panic and devastation gripped the Bioku-Alaadun area of Ibadan, Ona Ara Local Government Area in Oyo State on Friday night as a gas explosion reportedly claimed several lives.
The incident occurred while a tanker was discharging gas into a retail outlet, sending shockwaves across the neighborhood. Early reports indicated that the owner of the gas shop and others nearby were among the casualties. The exact number of those affected is yet to be confirmed.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the explosion in a telephone interview, saying operatives were already on the scene working to contain the situation. He noted that details on the casualties were still being compiled.
“Our men are there; they are still working. Yes, the incident happened. They were discharging gas, and there was an explosion. Information on the casualties is still being gathered,” Akinyinka said.
