Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has stated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is the only political party capable of rescuing Nigeria from its current economic and security challenges.
Atiku made the declaration on Saturday while inaugurating the ADC office in Jalingo, Taraba State, shortly after officially defecting to the party earlier this week, barely 17 months before the 2027 general elections.
Addressing party supporters, he reflected on his experiences with other political platforms, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), noting their failure to address Nigeria’s crises.
“We have tasted other political parties and they brought nothing but insecurity, hunger, poverty and unemployment,” Atiku said. “I want you to hold this party with integrity. Do not allow anybody to deceive you with any other party.”
He encouraged residents of Taraba to participate in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise, stressing that citizen engagement is key to changing the nation’s trajectory.
“ADC will win Taraba state, win Nigeria as the only reliable political party,” Atiku added. “The youths and women should know that we are doing this for them to have a better future, and I am holding on to their promise.”
Atiku, who resigned from the PDP on July 16 citing irreconcilable internal differences, expressed confidence in ADC’s ability to provide real solutions to the nation’s challenges and offer Nigerians hope beyond mere rhetoric.
With the 2027 elections approaching, Atiku’s defection and his endorsement of ADC mark a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, signaling potential realignment among voters seeking alternatives to the traditional party structures.
Supporters at the event expressed optimism that the ADC could deliver meaningful change, reflecting widespread frustration with ongoing insecurity, rising unemployment, and economic hardships.
