The Federal Government has announced a nationwide ban on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) in both public and private schools, effective from the 2026/2027 academic session.
Mrs Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.
She explained that the directive is part of measures to curb examination malpractice in public examinations.
The Ministry noted that concerns over rising cases of malpractice, including the operation of so-called “special centres” during external exams, prompted the policy. These practices, it said, undermine the credibility of Nigeria’s education system.
“Admission or transfer into SS3 will no longer be permitted under any circumstances.”
“The policy applies nationwide and is aimed at discouraging last-minute student movements for examination advantages, ensuring consistent academic monitoring, and promoting continuity in teaching and learning,” the statement said.
School proprietors, principals, and administrators have been directed to comply fully, with any violations attracting sanctions in line with existing regulations.
The Federal Ministry of Education emphasized that the measure reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining academic standards, promoting fairness, and restoring the credibility of public examinations across the country.
