The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Osun State Command, has arrested a commercial driver and a scrap dealer for their alleged involvement in the vandalism of telecommunications facilities in parts of the state.
The arrests were disclosed in a statement issued by the Osun State Command of the NSCDC and signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASCI Kehinde Adeleke, on behalf of the State Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo.
Sotiyo said the suspects were linked to the vandalism of telecoms sites and the theft of backup batteries at Eripa and Otan Ayegbaju areas of Osun State.
He explained that engineers from IHS Telecommunications Company discovered during an on the spot assessment on December 1, 2025, that backup batteries at the affected sites had been stolen. He said the incident was formally reported to the NSCDC on Tuesday, December 9, prompting swift action by the command.
According to him, two suspects were arrested in connection with the crime. They are Arisekola, a 35 year old commercial driver, and Alhaji Adedokun, a 50 year old scrap dealer. He added that two other suspects involved in the operation are currently at large.
“In his confessional statement, Arisekola, who resides in Iree, said he was contacted to transport the vandalised items to Alhaji Adedokun, a scrap dealer based in Ikirun,” the commandant said.
He further disclosed that Adedokun also confessed to purchasing fourteen batteries removed from the two telecommunications sites.
Sotiyo assured residents that efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and bring all those involved to justice.
He reiterated the commitment of the NSCDC to the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, and to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across Osun State.
The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities around public facilities to security agencies promptly.
