Ogun State House of Assembly has approved a resolution calling for the comprehensive compilation, publication and digitalisation of all existing state laws to improve accessibility, ensure preservation, and create revenue opportunities.
The move was aimed at modernising the State’s legal framework and aligning it with global best practices in digital governance.
The resolution, titled H.R. No. 155/OG/2025 – The Need For Compilation, Publication and Digitalisation of Laws of Ogun State for Accessibility, Preservation and Revenue Generation, was sponsored by Hon. (Barr.) Oluseun Adesanya, representing Ijebu North East, seconded by Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, and supported unanimously by all lawmakers.
Speaking during plenary, Adesanya noted that over the years, several laws had been enacted in Ogun State, but poor documentation had made access difficult for citizens, legal practitioners, institutions, and investors.
He stressed that digitalisation would promote transparency, ease of doing business, and institutional efficiency, while also generating revenue through subscription-based access.
Former Speaker Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo and Minority Leader Adeleye backed the motion, urging the State Government to create an online platform that would host all state laws, including local government by-laws.
They emphasized that the initiative would enhance public awareness and serve government agencies effectively.
The motion was formally adopted as a resolution following a unanimous vote led by Majority Leader Yusuf Sherrif and seconded by his Minority counterpart.
Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide directed that copies of the resolution be transmitted to all relevant stakeholders to commence implementation.
In a related development, the House also read for the first time a bill titled H.B. No. 027/PG/2025 – Ogun State Development Planning and Project Community Law, 2025, signaling continued legislative efforts to advance development and governance in the state.
