Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly on Thursday held a special plenary session in honour of a former lawmaker, Hon. Julius Oladehinde Kuyoro, who represented Odeda State Constituency in the Fourth Assembly.

Kuyoro, who was elected on the platform of the All Peoples Party following Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999, died in December 2025 at the age of 91.

Presiding over the session, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, described the deceased as a senior colleague and a true icon of democracy whose contributions left a lasting imprint on the state.

Elemide said Kuyoro lived a life devoted to public service, adding that his legacy of commitment and selflessness would continue to inspire future generations.

“He was a legislator who embodied purposeful leadership, grassroots development and community empowerment,” the Speaker said.

He added that the late lawmaker, who also served as Vice Chairman and party leader in Odeda Local Government, was a mentor who encouraged others to embrace public service with humility and dignity.

According to him, “his life teaches us that leadership is not about position but about impact and the ability to inspire selfless service.”

The Speaker urged current lawmakers to draw lessons from Kuyoro’s life by contributing meaningfully to their constituencies and upholding legislative excellence.

In separate tributes, the Speaker of the Fourth Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muyiwa Oladipo, alongside former lawmakers including Samuel Olubunmi Dada, Bode Adeaga, Olusola Bankole, Ismaila Sansa, Olusegun Bolanle Gbeleyi and Fasiu Bakenne, described Kuyoro as a peace-loving leader and a stabilising force.

They recalled his jovial nature and his ability to relate freely with people across different age groups and social status, noting that he remained committed to his constituency despite being in the minority.

The former lawmakers also commended his efforts in attracting developmental projects to Odeda State Constituency.

Speaking on behalf of the family, the deceased’s son, Patrick Kuyoro, described his father as a loving, calm and caring man who upheld integrity and dignity throughout his lifetime.

Another son, Oluwaseun Kuyoro, in his vote of thanks, appreciated the Assembly for honouring their late father and grandfather through the special plenary session.
