The Ogun State House of Assembly has called on the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to swiftly restore electricity to several communities in Yewa North, which were plunged into darkness following the destruction of power installations by haulage trucks from the Dangote Cement factory.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, issued the charge during plenary, commending Dangote Cement for fulfilling its corporate social responsibility by donating electricity poles and installation items as part of efforts to re-energise the affected communities.

“Dangote Cement has done its part. Now, it is time for IBEDC to match that commitment and ensure these communities are connected back to the grid within the six weeks they earlier promised,” the Speaker said.

The development followed a submission by Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju, representing Yewa North 1, who confirmed that Dangote Cement had supplied the materials required to commence reconnection.

“The company has demonstrated good faith by providing the materials. We now urge IBEDC not to delay in energising our people,” Adeyanju added.

He extended gratitude to the traditional rulers in the affected area, especially the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, as well as youth groups and community leaders for their cooperation and continued advocacy.

During the same plenary, the Speaker directed the House Committee on Works and Infrastructure to engage the State Ministry of Works on the rehabilitation of Imodi-Mosan roads, following concerns raised by Hon. Olusegun Odunuga, who stressed the need for urgent road repair in his constituency.

In a related development, Hon. Fola Salami, representing Ifo II, presented a petition from the Oke-Aro/Akute/Asoore/Ajuwon area on behalf of officers and the Baale from the Akinosi Area Development Committee.

The petition lamented the environmental degradation caused by the water pipe laying project executed for Lagos State by SALINI Nigeria Limited, a civil engineering firm.

Meanwhile, the House observed a minute of silence in honour of the late Oniko of Ikolaje Idiroko, Oba John Olakunle Ojo, who passed away at the age of 82. The tribute followed a formal notification by Hon. Adebisi Oyedele, the lawmaker representing Ipokia/Idiroko State Constituency.
