As Ogun State celebrates its 50th anniversary, the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters’ Association of Nigeria (FIBAN), Ogun State Chapter, has commended the State for its enduring influence on journalism and media development in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by Comrade Olusoji Akindiya, Publicity Secretary of Ogun FIBAN, the association lauded the State’s position as a cradle of media excellence, noting its history of producing generations of reporters, broadcasters, editors, and communication professionals who have shaped public discourse and strengthened democracy across the nation.
“Ogun State occupies a special place in Nigeria’s historical and intellectual journey as a foremost centre of journalism, broadcasting, and media excellence.”
“Broadcasting continues to flourish here because of the State’s strong academic tradition, enabling environment, and culture of professionalism,” the statement read.
The statement highlighted the role of the Mass Communication Department of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ojere, Abeokuta, in training media professionals who now hold strategic positions across Nigeria’s media landscape.
It also acknowledged Ogun State’s rich literary heritage, commitment to civic engagement, and long-standing promotion of press freedom and ethical journalism.
FIBAN expressed pride in the achievements of media practitioners from Ogun State, noting their dedication to truth, responsibility, and public service.
The association prayed for continued growth, technological advancement, and leadership in media and information dissemination in the coming decades.
