Ogun State has taken the lead among implementing states under the Nigeria for Women Project Scale Up after successfully forming 2,000 Women Affinity Groups within six weeks of full implementation.
The achievement was disclosed in a statement signed by the State Project Coordinator, Mrs. Bolanle Fadairo, who said the figures were generated from the Project Management Information System on a national platform.
Fadairo described the development as clear evidence of Ogun State’s institutional readiness and firm commitment to women empowerment under the scale up phase of the project.
She noted that the performance placed the state at the forefront of effective implementation nationwide.
According to her, “the feat reflects the visionary leadership and unwavering support of the present administration, as well as the political will of key stakeholders involved in the project.”
She also commended the collaboration among the Ministries of Finance, Women Affairs and Social Development, Budget and Planning, as well as the dedication of the State Project Coordinating Unit.
Giving a breakdown of the Women Affinity Groups across the four implementing local government areas, Fadairo said Ijebu Ode recorded 760 groups, representing 38 percent of the total, while Ifo Local Government formed 569 groups, accounting for 28.45 percent.
She added that Sagamu Local Government recorded 378 groups, representing 18.9 percent, while Ado Odo Ota formed 293 groups, amounting to 14.64 percent. She explained that the spread reflects effective community mobilisation and strong grassroots engagement across the project areas.
The State Project Coordinator reaffirmed the resolve of the Ogun State Government to sustain the momentum, deepen the project’s impact and consolidate gains under the Nigeria for Women Project Scale Up, positioning the state as a reference point for inclusive and women focused development in the country.
