The Ogun State Police Command has reiterated its ban on the sale and use of fireworks, knockouts, and bangers, while assuring residents of heightened security during the 2025 Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The Command warned that the loud sounds from these items are often mistaken for gunshots or explosions, which can cause panic, fear, and unnecessary tension in communities.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the Command has adopted comprehensive security measures before, during, and after the festive period to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and all tactical units have been directed to intensify patrols and increase police visibility in residential areas, markets, motor parks, places of worship, hospitals, and along major highways.
Parents and guardians were urged to caution children and wards against the use of fireworks, with the assurance that anyone causing public disturbance, injury, or property damage will face prosecution under the law.
The Commissioner of Police called on residents to celebrate peacefully, obey the law, and cooperate with security agencies, assuring that adequate security will be maintained throughout the festive season and beyond.
