Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has extolled the late Dr. Doyin Okupe as a man of profound impact, resilience, and unwavering dedication to Nigeria, his family, and his faith.

He described Okupe’s life as one marked by selfless service, integrity, and strong principles.

Speaking at the final burial service held at the Wesley Methodist Cathedral in Iperu-Remo, Ogun State, Governor Abiodun paid glowing tributes to the former spokesperson for ex-Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, describing him as “an extremely cerebral, kind, humble, and generous man.”

Reflecting on Okupe’s contributions, Abiodun remarked, “He was a media guru, articulate, and fearless spokesman. He was a professional in politics, not a professional politician”.

“Dr. Okupe was principled, dependable, and unwavering in his convictions. He would not shift his stance under pressure unless he was convinced from within.”

The Governor further noted that despite Okupe’s dogged political stance, he never allowed his political beliefs to define or ruin his personal relationships.

“He could take a political stance against you, but that would not stop him from maintaining a good friendship with you. He always drew a clear line between politics and personal relationships,” he added.

Abiodun urged the congregation to emulate Okupe’s legacy by living a life of impact and treating others with fairness and kindness.

He stressed that making a difference is not limited to politicians alone but is the responsibility of every individual.

Delivering the sermon, the Methodist Archbishop of Egba-Yewa and the Archbishop of RIYE, The Most Rev. Adegbemi Atanda Adewale, emphasized the fleeting nature of life and the importance of service to humanity.

“Dr. Okupe’s life teaches us that true greatness lies in using our talents, time, and resources to impact others positively,” he said.

The Archbishop highlighted Okupe’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of his family and community, describing his legacy as an enduring inspiration for his children and future generations.

“His devotion to service was evident in his attitude and actions. His life reminds us that those in leadership and the affluent should uplift the lives of those around them,” he stated.

Among the dignitaries who attended the burial service were members of the Ogun State Executive Council, former First Lady of Benue State, Arc. Yemisi Suswam, Hon. Kayode Amusan, Chief Alex Onabanjo, Senator Lekan Mustapha, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Mr. Tunde Rahaman, and former Ogun State Governor, Senator Gbenga Daniel, among others.
