A fresh crisis appears to be brewing in the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress as former Deputy Governor of the state, Iyiola Omisore, has taken the party to court over the conduct of its governorship primary ahead of the 2026 election.
Omisore, who had earlier indicated interest in contesting the governorship ticket of the party, approached the Federal High Court to challenge his disqualification from the primary election.
The former senator was among several aspirants barred from participating in the exercise shortly before the party conducted its primary, a development that reportedly generated discontent among some party members and supporters in the state.
Sources within the party said the disqualification of Omisore and other aspirants created tension within the APC in Osun, with some stakeholders expressing concern over what they described as a setback for internal democracy in the party.
The legal action is now believed to have further heightened anxiety among members of the party as preparations continue for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Meanwhile, party elders had earlier attempted to calm the situation. The caucus of elders in the Osun APC recently visited Omisore in his hometown of Ile-Ife in a move aimed at resolving the disagreement and persuading him to remain committed to the party.
The reconciliation effort was also seen as part of attempts to strengthen unity within the party under the leadership of former Osun governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
