Ondo State Police have successfully rescued a couple who were abducted in Itaogbolu community of Akure North Local Government Area, while arresting a suspected kidnapper.
The victims, identified as Mr David and his wife, were seized at their farm hut along the Ondo–Ekiti border at Odeigede Camp.
The state Police spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, said the rescue operation took place in the early hours of Monday around 5:30 a.m.
Acting swiftly on intelligence, the Commissioner of Police deployed operational teams to ensure the safe recovery of the couple.
“Operatives from the Iju–Itaogbolu division and the State Anti-Kidnapping Squad (SAKS), working with vigilant youths of the community, advanced into the forest in pursuit of the kidnappers.
Under pressure, the suspects abandoned the victims. Mr David, who sustained machete cuts, managed to escape alongside his wife, while our officers promptly secured them,” Ayanlade stated.
The operation also led to the arrest of one suspect in a nearby hut, with recovered items including a Samsung Note 10 mobile phone, a sword, and a broken bottle.
The suspect has been cooperating with investigators to help trace fleeing accomplices.
The Police Command commended the teamwork between the officers and community members, emphasizing that Ondo State remains committed to preventing violent crimes.
Ayanlade urged residents to stay vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement to safeguard lives and property.
