A 28-year-old final-year student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), Ondo State, Precious Arobo, has reportedly taken his own life following complications from a troubled relationship.
The deceased, identified as an HND II student of the institution, was found dead in a bush close to his residence. His body was seen hanging with a rope, in what has been described as suicide by hanging.
Sources said Arobo left behind a note before the tragic incident, though full details surrounding his death remain sketchy. However, it is believed the suicide note indicated emotional distress linked to a relationship crisis.
His grieving parents reportedly buried him shortly after news of his death broke, with friends and colleagues describing him as kind-hearted and well-loved.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, said officers have commenced an investigation to establish the true cause of the incident.
Ayanlade said, “I can confirm to you that a case of suicide was reported around 10 pm on June 18, 2025, at the B Division Police Station in Owo. On receiving the report, the DPO led detectives to the scene, where the lifeless body of a young man, aged about 27 years, was found hanging with a rope suspected to have been used in the suicide.”
The police disclosed that the body was removed and deposited at the Federal Medical Centre mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
This tragic occurrence comes less than a year after a similar incident involving a female student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Modupe Ayandare, who was also found dead by suicide after reportedly leaving a note.
Ayandare was discovered in an uncompleted building near a church where she had attended a vigil, marking a troubling pattern of student suicides in the state.
