Former Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has rejected a viral online publication that claimed he resigned from office because he “cannot stand and watch the US and Tinubu government bombing our brothers in the forest.” He described the story as false and crafted to cause confusion.
In a statement released through his media office on Wednesday, Badaru said he never made such a remark and that the authors only wanted to smear his name and create friction between him and the President.
Badaru said the widely shared claim was “malicious, false and baseless.” He added that “the publication did not originate from me or from anyone authorised to speak on my behalf. Those behind it simply want to tarnish my reputation and sow discord.”
He explained that the real reasons for his resignation had already been formally communicated to the President and later shared with the public through regular media channels. He cautioned Nigerians against embracing false narratives meant to stir tension.
“My loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains firm. I am committed to the peace, security and stability of our country,” he said.
He also assured the leadership of the All Progressives Congress and Nigerians that he would continue to support the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Badaru added that his dedication to the party remains strong as the nation moves toward the 2027 general elections.
